Our Junior Church ministry is committed to giving our children an early understanding on the love of God for them through Jesus Christ, and their responsibility to Him. Our Junior Church had its 30th anniversary in January 2009. This ministry is for children of ages 3 to 18.

From its inception in the year 1979 our focus in the Junior Church is to raise a generation of young people passionate about Jesus and follow Him as their Lord and Saviour. We endeavour to teach biblical truths and nurture children in how these truths can apply to their everyday life via interactive learning.

As teachers we are fervent about teaching children about who Jesus is and His deep love for them. Our desire is that our children will build a solid foundation of faith in God and His promises so they will be prepared for life’s challenges. Hence, kids will spend about one and half hour engaging in fun, creative, and age-appropriate activities designed to teach Biblical truths in relevant ways.

Junior Church Books

Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord in whatever you do, and your plans will succeed”. According to this scripture verse, we committed everything in the hands of our Lord Jesus Christ and He fulfilled our plans by bringing these books out successfully in the year 2018. All Glory, Honor and Praises go only to our loving, heavenly father Lord Jesus Christ.

We started the project on 15th May, 2016, with the encouragement and guidance given by our Reverend Christopher Rathnaswamy and with the inspiration from the Holy Spirit. It was discussed with the Reverend, and a group of experienced junior church teachers, reviewers and editors were chosen to form a committee to write the lessons thematically. We selected 4 themes, the themes were titled “IN GOD’S FAMILY” and our sub-themes were Values, Relationship, Oneness and Responsibility. All the lessons are bible based, with the aim to apply the biblical lessons in their real life.

For the Beginners and Primary students that form KG to Gr. 2, the theme chosen was “Values” in God’s family. The SEEDS from the VALUES, which we have determined to sow in our children’s heart, will teach our precious children to have faith in God and help them understand the Bible. To widen their thoughts and actions to love, to help, to be kind, be forgiving, be humble, be selfless and to serve and obey God and elders with a happy heart and apply all the values in their real lives.

For the Juniors of Grades 3, 4 and 5 the topic taken was “Relationship” in God’s family. All the lessons are focused on how our relationship with our Jesus should grow and also have a positive impact on our relationship with our Parents, Siblings, Elders and people in our community and the world. If our relationship with God is right, then our relationship with others will also be right.

The Intermediate comprises of Grade 6 to 8 and the chosen theme was "Oneness/Unity". The children will embark on a Spiritual journey to understand oneness with God (reconciliation through the cross) and oneness with others in God’s family, reflecting on Christ in Unity. This is an interactive and true life, application based learning.

The theme “Responsibility” was chosen for the Seniors for becoming responsible in the spiritual world as Paul said, children be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord and this is what our teens of Grade 9 to 12 will be reflecting and learning by probing the word of God. This book focuses on the daily life application of the biblical principles that they learn.

We are thankful to God for enabling us to complete this project successfully. Please join with us and pray that the Holy Spirit will inspire the children to learn the lessons through these books and apply it in their real life.

Attendance

Children are encouraged to attend the Junior Church regularly. The attendance for Term-1 are marked for 10 and the attendance for Term-2 are marked for 10.

Memory Verse

Children are expected to understand the scriptures and memorize them. Memorization with meaningful understanding, will program their conscience to live in light of those verses. Children must memorize verses from the student book given in classes to score 10 marks for Term-1 and 10 marks for Term-2.

Class Participation & Book Completion: Children are motivated to participate in class discussions and partake in class activities. This enhances their understanding and learning of the Bible principles. The completion of the workbook is emphasized as it encourages the repetition of study at home and deepens the child’s understanding. (No extra work other than the workbook are given). Marks are awarded to the child for class participation and book completion. Term-1 is marked for 10 and Term-2 is marked for 10.

Assessment & Reward

Assessment is conducted in an easy and simple manner. Children are assessed for 20 marks in Term-1 and 20 marks in Term-2. They are rewarded at the end of the year based on the sum of marks acquired in Term-1 and Term-2.

Topics Term-1 Term-2 Total

Memory Verse 10 10 20
Class Participation & Book Completion 10 10 20

Marking Scheme

Parents are accountable to God, for the nurture of their children. The Church’s teaching is supplemental to the modeling and teaching that parents provide for their children. Junior Church Ministry is committed to teach the Scriptural truths, lead every child to receive Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and help them mature in Christ. The world seeks only the gifted and talented kids in their team. As Christians, we are in contrast with that approach. Every child is on God’s Team, irrespective of their strength or weakness, boldness or softness. We are introducing a new marking scheme that will facilitate all our Junior Church children.
